Sherwood Forest Today

A good place to begin any exploration of Sherwood Forest is at the Vistior Centre. The Major Oak is approximately a 20 minutes walk from the Centre, and the visitor will get a true feel of this great forest by taking any of the way-marked forest trails.

At the Visitor Centre, you will find out what life would have been like for outlaws, kings and commoners in Sherwood Forest during the Middle Ages at the "Robyn Hode`s Sherwode" exhibition. Visitors can also view the "Forest of the World" exhibition which explores the ecology and importance of our world`s woodland heritage.

The Country Park hosts a year-round calendar of special events from ranger-led walks to tree dressing celebrations. The Robin Hood Festival is held annually during the summer, usually at the end of July/beginning of August.

This spectacular event is a fun-filled week for all the family with jousting, archery, medieval crafts and open-air theatre.
